It can take roughly three tons of fresh rose petals to produce about one kilogram of rose oil, depending on the harvest and distillation conditions.
The roses are traditionally picked by hand and distilled soon after harvesting. The extraordinary amount of flowers required for such a small yield is one of the reasons genuine rose oil is so rare and precious.
